Report Fraud — England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Report Fraud is the national reporting service for fraud and cyber crime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Use its website to report a suspected romance scam and find guidance on what happens next.

Police Scotland

If you live in Scotland, report suspected romance fraud directly to Police Scotland by calling 101. Its website also provides advice about recognising and reporting romance scams.

Financial help and complaints

Your bank or payment provider

If you have sent money, contact your bank or payment provider immediately and explain that you suspect fraud. Ask whether the payment can be stopped or recovered. Use your banking app or the number on your card. Calling 159 can also connect you to participating banks.

If you are unhappy with how your bank or payment provider handled a scam, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. Its service is free for consumers. You must first give the bank or provider an opportunity to resolve your complaint.
